Welcome Rolling Encounters: A New Adventure in Tabletop Gaming & Community

Hi, I'm Adam. Welcome to Rolling Encounters.

Have you ever had one of those sessions where you just couldn’t roll well? The dice keep coming up low, and then you hit that glorious critical failure… again and again.
How do you handle it? You can let it ruin your night, or you can lean all the way into the chaos and make it part of the story. My vote? Always lean into the failures and have fun with them!
I’ll never forget one night playing my elf ranger. He was in a bad spot — multiple guards on him, and one had grabbed him from behind. I decided to try a cheeky move and target the guard’s… tender region… to break free. You can probably guess what happened. Critical failure.
Instead of getting frustrated, I leaned hard into it. I described my elf accidentally hitting himself in the groin. The guards were so horrified and weirded out that it created the perfect distraction. Painful? Yes. Hilarious? Absolutely. My elf still managed to escape, and the whole table was rolling with laughter. That moment turned into one of our favorite memories.
That’s the kind of energy I want to bring to Rolling Encounters.I started this shop because I love D&D, RPGs, Magic: The Gathering, board games, sci-fi, and fantasy — all of it. More than just selling dice and t-shirts, I want to build a real community where people can come together and find more joy in life. Right now we’re online, but my big dream is to eventually open a physical space right here in Cache Valley.
I don’t want a typical boring game store. I picture something more like a welcoming inn from D&D — a community hub where adventurers actually want to hang out. Private and public gaming tables, supplies, my wife’s baked goods, a “bard’s corner” for anyone brave enough to perform or read stories, and a big screen playing fantasy and sci-fi movies. A place where it’s completely normal to show up in ranger gear or a Stormtrooper outfit. We could even run costume contests or have random character visits.
I also have this idea for serialized short stories — a snail mail subscription where you get the next part of an ongoing adventure once or twice a month, maybe with some art or little extras tucked inside.
So that’s the vision. We’re just getting started, but we’re rolling with it (pun intended).
What about you?
Have you ever turned a terrible roll into a great story? What kind of events or community stuff would you actually want to see? Drop a comment below — I’d love to hear your thoughts!
